RACE CLASSES RUN BY MOTORCYCLING CANTERBURY AT CLUB DAYS

  • SUPERBIKE
    • This class is for sports production machinery 800 – 1300cc 4 stroke 2-3 cylinders maximum and 750 – 1000cc 4 stroke 4 cylinders maximum.
    • Refer to Road Race appendix C of the Manual of Motorcycle Sport
  • SUPERSPORT 600
    • This class is for 501cc – 600cc 4 stroke 4 cylinder maximum or 601cc – 875 4 stroke 3 cylinder maximum including 750 V twins.
    • Refer to Appendix F of the Manual of Motorcycling Sport
  • PRO TWIN
    • This class is for 2 cylinder 4 strokes up to 660cc standard engines.
    • Refer to Road Race appendix E of the Manual of Motorcycle Sport
  • SUPERLITE
    • This class includes machines with multi cylinder 4 stroke up to 450cc, multi cylinder production based 2 strokes up to 750cc, twin cylinder air cooled 4 stroke up to 750cc and twin cylinder 2 or more valves, water cooled 4 stroke up to 650cc.
    • Refer to Appendix B of the Manual of Motorcycling Sport for a full list of capacities and machine specifications
  • 125GP/250 MONO
    • This class does NOT require MNZ homologation
    • 125cc GP machines must be up to 125cc single cylinder 2 stroke with a maximum 6 speed gear box or 250 GP Mono fitted with a single cylinder 4 stroke engine with a maximum of 6 speed gear box with a capacity of no less than 200cc and no greater than 250cc.
    • Riders can be aged from 13 years but must wear a hi viz vest for the first 10 meetings.
    • All machines must be fitted with a lower fairing to catch engine oil and coolant

  • SUPERSPORT 300 –

    • This class is for twin cylinder 4 stroke engines from 260cc up to 325cc or single cylinder 4 stroke engines from 260cc – 380cc.
    • Wet tyres are allowed
    • Riders can be aged from 13 years with MNZ approval but must wear a hi viz vest for the first 10 meetings
    • Refer to Appendix I of the Manual of Motorcycling Sport for details of modifications allowed
  • 250 PRODUCTION
    • This class is for twin and single cylinder 4 stroke engines from 200cc up to 250cc standard engines
    • Riders can be aged from 13 years with MNZ approval but must wear a hi viz vest for the first 10 meetings.
    • Tyre warmers are NOT permitted but wet tyres are
    • Refer to Appendix H of the Manual of Motorcycling Sport
  • GIXXER 150
    • This class is for model GSX150FDZAL7. Only genuine Suzuki parts can be used to repair the machine.
    • Riders are restricted to those from 14 years as of January 1st. Riders must not have been placed in the top 5 places of any national road race.
    • MNZ approval can be given for 13 year old riders who are required to wear a hi viz vest for the first 10 meetings
    • Refer to Appendix K of the Manual of Motorcycling Sport for details of control tyres and parts to be removed.
  • SUPERSPORT LIGHTWEIGHT
    • This class is open to any Miniature Road Race bikes (as per MNZ MOMs chapter 16).
    • 250 Production (as per MOMs Appendix H) and up to 150cc 2 stroke single cylinder, or up to 250cc 4 stroke single or twin cylinder street type road registerable mass production machines of any mak sold in NZ.
    • It is intended as a low cost, entry level class to promote fun. Parents often ride with children.
    • The minimum age is 7 years (bike matched to rider size).
    • Refer to Supersport Lightweight Class Supplementary Regulations for full details relating to this class.
  • SIDECARS
    • We run one class for open and classic machines.
    • If you are interested in being a passenger, this can be arranged.
    • Refer to chapter 18 of the MOMs for details of specifications.
  • SUPER MOTARD
    • These machines run on the sealed circuit.
    • Knobby tyres are NOT allowed.
    • Refer to Road Race chapter 20 of the Manual of Motorcycle Sport for details of the machines allowed.
  • CLUBMANS
    • This class is for novice riders and those who do not wish to ride in national classes – entry is at the discretion of the club.
    • Points are NOT awarded for this class.
  • CLASSICS
    • We run one class for machines pre -72 up to pre-95.
    • Refer to chapter 17 of the MOMs for details
  • TRAINING
    • Motorcycling Canterbury has FXR150 and Ninja 250 machines which can be hired for $50 per day. These must be pre-booked.

COMMON REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASSES

  • Bikes must be fitted with VIN compliance plates, be of a make and model lawfully sold in NZ and be as constructed by the manufacturer.
  • Bikes require MNZ homologation
  • Tyres, including wet tyres, must be commercially available; tyre warmers can be used
  • Items such as head and tail lamp, reflectors, mirrors, centre and side stands and registration plates and bracket must be removed.
  • You can add items including a steering damper, ride height adjuster, engine case covers and protective crash knobs, and an engine cut lanyard attached to the rider that will cut the ignition or fuel supply to the bike,
  • A chain guard or shark fin must be fitted.

The club has leathers and other gear which novice riders can use – you must supply your own helmet.
Riders are supplied with a hi viz vest and partnered with a trainer. All riders are given one-on-one training for no cost by national class riders.
